Planned Parenthood Sets Abortion Record
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 8:57 am

Planned Parenthood has set a new record with the number of abortions it performs.  According to a report on

Planned Parenthood Federation of America recently posted on its
website what it calls its service numbers for 2009. This document, dated
February 2011, shows Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide did
332,278 surgical abortions or abortions using the dangerous RU 486
abortion during in 2009.

That’s 2.5 percent more abortions than the September 2010 report
the abortion business released covering 2008 and showing it doing
324,008 abortions, which was a 6.1 percent increase over the 305,310
abortions it did in 2007. The 2007 figure was itself a 5.3 percent
increase over the 289,750 abortions Planned Parenthood did in 2006.

With approximately 1.2 million abortions done annually in the United
States via surgical abortions or the mifepristone abortion drug, Planned
Parenthood has increased its share of the abortion industry to 27.6
percent of all abortions done annually.

House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 1:53 pm

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nationwide federation of state right-to-life organizations, expressed strong approval that the U.S. House of Representatives today adopted, 240-185, an amendment offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.) to cut off federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and 102 named PPFA affiliates.
“This landmark vote demonstrates that most House members now recognize Planned Parenthood is a hyper-political, under-regulated, out-of-control mega-marketer of abortion as a method of birth control,” said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.
In a letter to House members, NRLC said, “PPFA is the nation’s largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. . . . According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013.  Recent media reports regarding abuses associated with PPFA-affiliated clinics in multiple states provide additional justifications for the amendment.”
The allegations regarding abuses, uncovered by independent journalists posing as sex traffickers, have received substantial coverage in mainstream news media in recent weeks, including this story in the New York Times.
The abortion-related provisions will next be considered in the U.S. Senate — where 33 seats, 23 of them currently held by Democrats or independents who caucus with the Democrats, will be on next year’s general election ballot.
“Now senators, too, will go on record on whether to push the snout of this bloated abortion mega-marketer, Planned Parenthood, out of the U.S. Treasury feeding trough,” said NRLC’s Johnson.
Any differences that emerge between the House and Senate versions of the funding bill will become subjects for negotiations between the two houses, and with the White House.

Statement on Governor Tom Corbett’s Response to Philadelphia Abortion Center Scandal
Filed under: General
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 2:09 pm

The following statement can be attributed to Michael Ciccocioppo, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation:

“We applaud Governor Tom Corbett for his leadership in responding to the atrocities found at Kermit Gosnell’s West Philadelphia abortion facility.  The tragic loss of life there and the manner in which women were brutalized in that abortion center were truly horrific.

“We agree with the Governor that the state failed to properly oversee the facility, and we welcome the sweeping changes the Corbett Administration is making in an effort to protect women.  The Gosnell case was a wake-up call for Pennsylvania and demonstrated the horrific conditions that can exist inside an abortion center.

“We are hopeful that the General Assembly will show similar courage in enacting legislation that will provide strict scrutiny of abortion facilities throughout the Commonwealth.”

Committee Approves Pitts’ Pro-Life Bill
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 11:37 am

A House committee has approved Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Pitts’ bill to remove abortion funding from the health care reform law.  As reports:

“The Protect Life Act, in short, would  amend the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act to continue the historical practice of prohibiting
federal funds from being used on abortion services,” Pitts said today.
“Unfortunately, the Stupak-Pitts provision was not included in final
passage, and so this will seek to amend health care reform by
statutorily putting into law what was overwhelmingly supported in this
body and is supported by 60 to 70 percent of the American people.”

Unborn Pain Bills Do Save Lives
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 1:03 pm

More attention is being focused now on the pain that can be felt by preborn children.  Substantial evidence exists that unborn babies as young as 20 weeks can experience pain.  That’s why it’s important to pass legislation that bars abortion when there’s reason to believe the practice could be painful for the child.  Such legislation also helps to educate the public about the miracle of fetal development.  You’ll find more on this intriguing topic at  .

PA Senate Holds Hearing on Abortion House of Horrors
Filed under: General

The Pennsylvania state Senate held a hearing Tuesday on the West Philadelphia abortion house of horrors operated by Kermit Gosnell.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams told Senators that there was “more oversight of women’s hair salons and nail salons” than abortion facilities in Pennsylvania.

Gosnell is charged in the deaths of one woman and seven newborns.  His gruesome facility was not inspected by state officials for 17 years.

During the hearing, Senators faulted the Departments of Health and State for failing in their duty to protect the health and safety of women and babies in the Commonwealth.

Troubles Go Beyond One Philly Abortion Center
Filed under: General

A report in the Philadelphia Inquirer demonstrates that the troubles found at Kermit Gosnell’s West Philadelphia abortion facility go beyond just that one center:

“In general, the discipline of doctors in this country is a
disaster,” said physician Sidney Wolfe, director of health research for
Public Citizen, a consumer-advocacy group.

“In Public Citizen’s annual look at rates of serious disciplinary
actions by state medical boards, New Jersey and Pennsylvania rank among
the least aggressive, having acted against fewer than three in every
1,000 physicians between 2007 and 2009.”

Repeal the Obama Health Care Law!
Posted by: Maria Vitale @ 8:03 am

National Right to Life and the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation are calling on all U.S. Senators to support the repeal of the Obama Health Care Law.  “As enacted, the Obama Health Care Law contains multiple provisions authorizing federal subsidies for abortion, and additional provisions on which future abortion-expanding regulatory mandates may be based,” said David N. O’Steen, Ph.D., National Right to Life Executive Director.  In addition, the law would result in medical rationing of life-saving care for seniors.  To learn more about the dangers of the Obama Health Care Law, please visit
